Hong Kong Travel Blog

Tales from the desk by Debbie

1322510051_Hong-Kong-Double-Decker1.jpgI flew economy class on Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong, the food and service was great and met expectation.

A tour of Hong Kong key sights by a Double Decker Big Bus Tour was great and informative. It was so extremely hot, but worth it in an open top bus, as you get to see so much.

That night we had dinner at Peking Garden Restaurant which is well known for its Peking Duck. Our meal consisted of 11 courses, so much good food...I have never felt so full!

Accommodation was the Harbour Grand, located at the heart of Hong Kong Island with 828 rooms. Very large accommodation rooms with lots of space and the hotel is nestled amongst the fashionable shopping areas and commercial offices of Causeway Bay and Wanchai.

A must in Hong Kong is to visit the Peak which takes you up by Tram to spectacular views of Hong Kong Harbour. The Stanley markets are fantastic for those who love to shop...they take credit card which is a bonus!

Went out for dinner that night and then danced the night away and hopefully some of those 11 courses I had the night before.

The next day we went on the NP360 which is a huge cable car ride with a glass bottom to Po Lin Monastery and Budha. Not for those scared of heights though, but a fantastic experience.

Our last day and experienced a Tea Appreciation. I never new how much went into a good cup of tea, like how hot certain teas should be to get the best taste. Did Thai Chi too which was a laugh, but a lot of fun.

Overall Hong Kong is an awesome place to visit, even for a stopover for a couple of nights or as a holiday destination.

Rendezvous Hotel Auckland

Tales From The Desk From Leanne Kennedy

Greeted politely by the porter at the door and walked into the amazingly huge lobby which was full of marble and granite walls, so much space and pounding natural light. This was my first time to view the hotel which is situated in the heart of Auckland City, close to Aotea Square, Auckland Town Hall and the Viaduct.

Lead in rooms have been recently renovated in dark woods, with new linen and furniture which makes them look modern and homely. The best part about the rooms – the bathrooms! They are huge, separate bath and shower and a decent area for you to get ready before that meeting ... or that night out! Unfortunately, due to it being ‘RWC’ season – I was unable to view any of the suites of the club lounge – but from what I have heard.. They sound luxurious and amazing!

Next we went down to the pool/gym area which is now famous due to the scene shot from Shortland Street where TK and Roimata were at a pool on their ‘honeymoon in the bay of islands’. Being a Shorthand street fan myself I loved it and could see why the picturesque venue was used. The gym was very impressive, with new looking equipment and a nice big area. The ‘sun deck’ looked like something from a resort and many sun loungers and table and chairs to soak up the sun on those hot summer days! I am told that there is to be a shade sale to be put in as well.

The conference facilities are great, there are 15 conference rooms that cater for all different types of conferences along with their elegant ball room that can hold 1000 cocktail and 700 sitting. The chandeliers and high ceilings make the place absolutely gorgeous. The pre area seems like a modern place to hold a mix and mingle with all the facilities needed.

This is the biggest hotel in Auckland – with a whopping 12 floors and 452 rooms it even has 3 wings – it seems confusing but the signage around the hotel keeps you on the right track!

The hotel boasts 3 restaurants, one which happens to be my favourite – Japanese! Cannot wait to try it. The other two are the Pacific Restaurant and the Atrium Bar.

All in all, the hotel offers a lot for both corporate and leisure. The rooms being spacious and comfy, the dining facilities the service with a smile and the feel about the place has turned me into a fan. When your booking your next stay in Auckland, don’t go past the Rendezvous!
