Keith Sumner


Keith brings a wealth of commercial experience to Gilpin Travel, having worked for large multinationals such as Newscorp, Carter Holt Harvey and Heinz before deciding that business ownership was his real goal. Also a graduate of the Icehouse Owner Manager programme Keith works full time in and on the business. Keith’s real passion is to develop his team and to ensure that clients are receiving the very best results they can from Gilpin Travel’s expertise. Keith is often called upon as a well respected travel provider to comment on the industry and is known as a knowledgeable and open source of information.

Lisa Sumner

Finance Director/Owner

Lisa formerly lectured at Manukau Polytechnic and was previously a business analyst with Datacom and Digital and a consultant with Peat Marwick. Lisa’s wealth of experience, both in and out of the travel industry, is invaluable when auditing client processes. If cost, time and resource savings are there, she will find them.

Grant Avis

General Manager

Winner Corporate Consultant of the Year New Zealand Travel Industry Awards

Not your run of the mill consultant. Grant has been with Gilpin Travel since 1995, where he began as short haul consultant. Over 20 years Grant has developed into an integral member of the Gilpin Team. Involved in all aspects of the business, Grant is a shareholder in the company, manages and mentors the Corporate Team, is an Online expert and most recently was appointed to the role of General Manager. Grant has worked in the corporate travel industry in both the UK and New Zealand and is not afraid to throw his hand to anything. He is our resident ‘jack of all trade’s and ultimately works to ensure all our clients’ needs are looked after. Grant is a graduate of The Icehouse’s Senior Manager Programme.

Justine Beguely

Sales Director

Justine brings to Gilpin over 18 years of experience working in the tourism and travel industry, encompassing travel management, online booking systems and hospitality, most recently with Hilton Worldwide. Justine is adept at travel policy compliance, training, mentoring, contract negotiation and benchmarking as well as offering clients strategic and analytical insights to improve their business. With a passion for travel herself, a love of music, and after some dabbling into ways in which to live the ‘Good Life’, Justine is sure to be able to provide you with an understanding of your travel needs complete with some sound gardening advice.

Katy Juretich

Finance Assistant

With having over 20 years in the travel industry as a travel consultant and assisting in travel finance areas, Katy has seen a lot of changes in her time. She has currently been with Gilpin Travel for the past 5 years assisting Lisa in the Finance Area. Her interests include travelling, gym, family life and sunny weekends!!

Laura Campbell


Laura started work for Gilpin in May 2014. She studied with AUT University and completed a diploma in Travel and Tourism and a Business Degree majoring in Tourism. Gilpin is her first job in travel and Laura hopes to do an O.E soon. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, going to concerts, meeting new people, trying out new restaurants and going to the gym.

Penny Snell

Penny Has traveller extensively and has a real passion for travel. With over 20 years of consulting experience, Penny has sent her customers everywhere! She hasn’t lost her own passion for travel either, and always has a unique destination on her bucket list.

Catherine Matthews

Conference & Incentive Account Manager

Catherine joined Gilpin Travel in late 2005 after completing her studies with Travel Careers and Training, where she gained her Diploma in Travel and Tourism. During her time at Gilpin Catherine has managed all aspects of Corporate travel for a number of our key accounts, is passionate about her work and just loves being a mum! In late 2015 Catherine decided she needed a new challenge and now manages Groups, Conference & Incentive travel for our expanding Gilpin Events business.

Mike Coleman


Since joining the travel industry Mike has travelled extensively visiting most countries in the world with the exception of South America. Mike previously owned The Parnell Travel Company and is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Travel (MNZITT). He has served on the board of directors of a number of travel associated company’s over the years.

Shelley Swainson

Operations Manager

Shelley made the switch to travel in 1995 and hasn’t looked back. She first started with Gilpin in 2002 and has since worked as a contractor and manager in the travel industry honing her expertise in the finance, online booking and travel broker side of the business. She is passionate about providing great customer service and enjoys working with brokers and clients alike. Europe is her favourite travel destination especially Italy so she’s keen to return at every opportunity.

Lianne Stott

Manager – Gilpin Private Travel

Lianne’s love of travel started while she was still at school and joined a group heading to Northern India to trek in Himalayas, she feels very privileged to have met Sir Edmund Hillary at the NZ High Commission in New Delhi after completing the trek. Another memorable trip saw her visit Egypt, Jordan and Israel...the highlights were sleeping on to of Mt Sinai to catch the sunrise (freezing!!) and a four day Felucca trip on the Nile. Since then she has lived in and visited the UK and Europe, travelled in Asia including a return trip to India and has enjoyed holidays and work trips in Australia and the Pacific Islands. Lianne is a skier and has been lucky enough to ski most resorts in Canada, Utah and Colorado....her favourite’s are: AspenSnowmass, Whistler and Park City. Next on her list is Niseko in Japan. In 2014 she visited Vanuatu including a small ship cruise on Island Escape, Myanmar and Hawaii. 2015 will see her head off to the USA with her partner Ben and a group of friends to ride motorbikes out of Las Vegas taking in the sights at Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Arches National Park before flying to one of her favourite cities New York. Travel is a passion and Lianne loves designing holidays for her clients, she draws on her personal experience and will also spend hours researching the best hotels, restaurants, must see sights etc. As a keen photographer Lianne aims to create a photo book each time she travels.

Melissa Davies

Senior Consultant

Melissa has worked in corporate travel for over 15 years, both in NZ and the UK, in a variety of consulting roles from Domestic, International,Groups, Leisure and VIP Management.

Based in the UK for two years with its easy access to Europe, Mel became an avid traveller. A passion which has stayed with her on return to New Zealand. Travelling around the world Mel ticked most places of her ‘bucket list’ apart from Africa which hopefully isn’t far away!

Mel has a passion for corporate travel as she enjoys getting to know your travellers and travel bookers and has built lasting relationships over the years.

Bonnie Lynch

Groups & Incentive Manager

Bonnie has had over 35 yrs experience in the travel industry. She started in leisure, moved into the corporate world and has spent the past 6 yrs specialising in groups, combining her destinational knowledge and experience to capture the imagination of her clients. Her experience in group movements has covered meetings, incentives, conferences and any other events.

Erina Kent

Operations Administrator

A gypsy at heart Erina has travelled extensively through UK, Europe, South East Asia and the US. Based in London for three years and having worked at Investment Banks such as Goldman Sachs, ABN AMRO and JPMorgan, Erina prides herself on her professionalism and enjoys interacting with people. Erina graduated from the University of Auckland with a Masters in Forensic Science (1st class) and applies her inquisitive mind and an eye for detail to the role of Operations Administrator. When not working at Gilpin Travel, Erina juggles raising three gorgeous children, serves as Board Chair for her son’s school and dreams of once again sending family and friends photographs from exotic destinations.

Kate Blewett

Conference & Incentive Co-ordinator

Kate has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Event Management minoring in Marketing and Design Studies, and is delighted to be working with our Gilpin Events team after working for a small PR and events company.

Janette Trinder

Senior Consultant

With over 20 years of dedication to the travel industry, Janette joined the Gilpin Family in early 2016 as one of our Senior consulting team. Janette prides herself on working to understand your travel needs and likes to build long lasting relationships with all those she works with. Having managed key corporate accounts, high end leisure travellers and specialist incentive groups, Janette can expertly assist with all your travel requests. During the weekend you can find Janette walking her dog at the beach or relaxing into a yoga class.
